The Reality Of The Pictures spreading all over the internet of Rani of Jhansi- Laxmi Bai

  Rani of Jhansi-Laxmi Bai

Rani Laxmi Bai this name is not unknown for anybody. Manikarnika Tambe born on 19 november 1828 married to the King of Jhansi Maharaja Gangadhar Rao Nelwalkar. She was the Indian queen of the Princely state of Jhansi in North India currently present in Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh , India. She was one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 along with Tatia Tope,Nana Sahib,Nawab Of Banda and other nationalists. She fought bravely for her kingdom and her Rights.Unfortunatly She died on 18 June 1858 in Gwalior near the Phoolbagh Area.

There are many images spreading all over internet claming that these images are the real photos of Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi. Meanwhile historians says that Rani had never met any britisher in the way that any british can take a photo of her even when she decided to file a petition against the East India Company in 1854 in London Court She met and spoked with her Australian lawyer John Lang behind a purdah (Curtain). We can say that he was the only foreigner who caught a glimpse of the Rani when Rani  adopted son Damodar rao accidently pulled the curtain.

If talk about who was the John Lang then John Lang was an Australian lawyer and was generally regarded as Australia first native novelist. Born in 1816 in Sydney. He sailed to India in 1842 and then made India as his new home.In 1845 he started a newspaper names The Moffusilite, published initially from Meerut and later from Mussoorie. The Paper he publish stands against East India Company and their harmful policies this was a reason he was sued and jailed by the company.Lang Also Fought a case against East India Company and won easily so Rani thought John can be useful for her. Lang lost case of rani and the rest is history. Lang later died in the hill station of Mussoorie.
 Lawyer John Lang

Lang Penned the whole incident of meeting with Rani in his Book named Wandering in India- sketches of life in Hindostan. Land wrote She was a good looking woman, rather stout but not too stout. Her face must have been very beautiful when she was younger. According to him the expressions was very intelligent the eyes were particularly fine and the nose very delicately shaped. She was not fair though she was far from dark. Her dress was plain white muslin so fine in texture and drawn about her in such a way that the outline of her figure was plainly discernible- a remarkably fine figure she had. What spoilt her was her voice,Land noted.
So now it is time to discuss about the photos peoples claiming that these are the real pics of Rani.
The First we have in our list is this
Its is said to 159 years old captured by photographer halfman.Today it is in Ahamdabad Gujrat in the care of a collector. It is also showed in Bhopal in a exhibition.
Om Shankar Asar the writer of the 2 books on rani denied it and said that the photo is to morden. Her hairs are open and not tied up her face has makeup. There is no record found that any one captured a picture of Rani in this getup.
Hence it is a fake picture.
The second picture we have is this. Rani is sitting on the Throne dressed as a Ruler or a King. As said by people this picture is captured by halfman in 1850. The picture was also published on a postcard claiming the women in the picture is Rani of Jhansi.
Now lets she what facts say
Manish Shrivastava a localite of Jhansi researcher on Rani who lives in Indonesia says History tells us that only John Lang has seen Rani no other britisher had seen her then where this halfman came from ? Another thing which he said that in picture rani is shown on throne in 1850 wearing a crown on her head she never dressed liked this before her husband Gangadhar Rao death. The maharaja of Jhansi died in1853 and after that Rani started fighting with british for her Jhansi. He denied that this picture is real and claimed it fake.
I want to mention here that I also researched on this picture and found that this picture is of Shah Jahan Begum of Bhopal or her daughter.
Third in our list is the most comman photo of Rani she is dressed as a worrier and ready to fight with her enemies. The most comman and known photo of her. People says same about this picture to that this is taken by halfman. Oh really ?.
Raja Ranjeet Singh Judev the Raja of Samthar State of Jhansi says Cameras were not in use at that time even britishers don’t have the cameras so photo capturing is not possible. It is said to be a imaginary or another womens photo.

And the last one is this ..
The well dressed picture of rani which we can also see in the govt. museum of Jhansi. Historians are not sure about it including Mohan Nepali. In my opinion I can only says about this picture is that this is a painitng on the basis of lang defined her in his book.
At last all I want to say that don’t spread rumors and wrong things about our history. As we know Britishers had done lots of changes in our india our Indian history is one of them. Our history is not a matter of emotions it is not a matter of our own profit it is the matter of the pride of our nation.
Thank you for your precious time u gived here.
If you have any querries related this I would love to answer them.

  1. It's great post and very brief also. I really enjoyed it while reading this post. There is only one mistake in this post. You used word land instead of lang. Otherwise all great . Thanks for sharing facts.
